He is regarded as one of the most successful and influential guitarists in rock music. He ranked second in Rolling Stone's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" and fourth in Gibson's "Top 50 Guitarists of All Time". In 2023, Rolling Stone named Clapton the 35th best guitarist of all time. He was also named number five in Time magazine's list of "The 10 Best Electric Guitar Players" in 2009.

My wife and I were married to this song, the good Lord called her home, and now I'm alone but when I listen to this song I close my eyes have a drink and I can almost see her, it makes me feel wonderful all night!
This was our first dance after our wedding. My beautiful lady left this world 18 months ago. She would have been 70 tomorrow and I miss her every day. Just closing my eyes and reliving that dance.
I played this song for my girlfriend one night in my car on the way to a date. I sang along and changed the words to match her. She told me that was the moment she knew we would be married. That was 27 years ago. This song is still our song.
