She is best known for the hits she recorded during the 1960s and 1970s, for both the Motown and Buddah Records labels, with her group Gladys Knight & the Pips, the most famous incarnation of which also included her brother Merald "Bubba" Knight and her cousins Edward Patten and William Guest. Knight started to record solo material due to legal issues that forced her and The Pips to record separately.

Met Gladys at her restaurant when I was about ten. My dad took me there because I’ve been an R&B fan since I was a child. She came out to the dining area and saw my tiny self just excited as all get out. She was so polite and tickled to see such a young fan. She sang a few chords and I could have died then and there HAPPILY.
"I'd rather live in his world than live without him in mine." This line tears my heart out every time. Gladys Knight is a living legacy to what great music is all about.
